Apparently Dan and Luby had words off-list before the rest of us were
made aware of the battle.

The rest of us should remember that we don't know to what previous
messages each combatant is replying.

Thus none of us can be sure of what attitudes we would be encouraging or
discouraging if we were to join in the battle.

In the area of clarinet music and opera, regardless of whether you agree
with all of Dan's opinions or not, Dan has a considerable 'track record'
over a number of years for providing useful information and substantive
opinions. Luby does not. (Luby has a 'track record' that you can
search in the archives.)

Take that for whatever you think it's worth.
