Audrey, it's been 40 years since I did it, and perhaps the roadways
don't allow ths any longer; but if it's still practical and if the
territory hasn't changed too much:

(and depending on your taste for exercise)

Start early and bicycle from the river bank in Paris to Versailles.
Versailles is tremendous, of course; but cycling all day through the
small towns and countryside --- especially on the way back to Paris on a
weekend evening when you may stumble across a celebration or political
rally in one of the many greens and parks along the route --- stopping
for lunch, and to chat with shop owners & pedestrians, etc --- all of
this added worthwhile (indispensable, imo) dimension to the normal
tourist activities. It was a full day & early evening of exercise, but
it was unquestionably worth it.

The only problem for me was that I leaned against the wall of an
unguarded elevator shaft at the end of the day because I was tired
(perhaps they're all guarded nowadays?), and I woke up in a hospital.
But they fixed me up n short order.

Cheers,
Bill
