The three finalists are:
Scott Andrews, Boston Symphony second clarinetist;
Ricardo Morales, Metropolitan Opera principal;
Michael Rusinek, Pittsburgh Symphony principal.

The intent was to have each play with the orchestra next fall. Morales
apparently couldn't get clear of his other commitments then, so he played
with them at the end of the season that just ended. The rumor I've heard is
that Donald Montanaro will soon retire and Sam Caviezel will be invited to
remain with the orchestra in Montanaro's position (Associate Principal
Clarinet). Presumably whoever of the three finalists is eventually picked
will need to finish the 2002-3 season wherever they currently have a
contract, so I would assume (purely my own conjecture) that no change will
be made until the 2003-4 season.

I'm certain someone will correct any misinformation I may have given - there
are a number of Klarinet members based in the Philadelphia area.
