My only small piece of advice is to follow the doctors' instructions after
the surgery - especially about how long to wait until you try to play. My
only experience with this was with one former student - she was scheduled to
play in the pit for our summer show a few days after having her wisdom teeth
extracted. She tried, against "doctor's orders" to play the first rehearsal
and swelled up so badly that she couldn't play the rest of the week's run.
Let it heal properly and don't schedule any strenuous or critical playing
within whatever the doctor tells you is an appropriate recovery period.
