I bought a pair of flutes, and one of them uses string+grease instead of
cork. The flute with greased thread was for a friend of mine --- it
was a 'folk instrument' rather than a 'concert instrument' --- and I
haven't observed it since I delivered it; but I've never heard her
complain about the system. The 'grease' is considerably more viscous
than cork grease. Perhaps it s actually a wax?
