Subj: [kl] Baronet clarinet?

Dragged home another dirty old metal clarinet from a flea market. Yeah,
yeah, I'm taking another perfectly good lamp base off the market.... Eh, what
can I say; it was only $15, it's in basically sound condition (needs cleanup,
corks, pads and some of the springs) and I needed something to do with my
hands when I watch sports on TV....

It's Boehm system, silver-plated. On the bell is the engraved logo "BARONET"
in block italic all-capital letters, framed by two curved swags of leaves.
Below the garland of leaves is small engraved lettering that says "Made in
U.S.A." Around the top front (just below where the mouthpiece assembly
inserts, and directly above the crossed A / Ab keys) is the stamped serial
number AC1109. I'm not familiar with this serial number system and I've
never heard of a Baronet. I checked the list archives and the granny's
attic list on the sneezy web site and found nada. Any theories about who
made this clarinet?

It's single-walled, the right length for a Bb, has 6 rings and 17 keys, and
looks like a typical metal clarinet from the 1930s. It seems adequately
well-made but I don't see anything special about it. The body is in one
piece with no center joint and a non-detachable bell. There's a little neck
socket that does detach, for the mouthpiece. (The mouthpiece, which I assume
isn't original, is black plastic with no logo. The only mark on it is the
capital letter B down near the bottom, on the right side of the facing when
the reed faces you. I haven't tried the mpc, but the black plastic looks
more modern than the clarinet.) The case is a generic long, skinny one with
black keratol on the outside and extra-tacky red "fur" on the inside, and is
unmarked.

Thanks for any help--
Lelia
