I also have an inverted Bonade and initially was quite upset at the
damage done to my mouthpiece. When I finally graduated to a really top
notch mouthpiece crafted by one of our own list memebrs ( a very well
known and respected professional musician) and mentioned my concern to
him, he said it would not at all affect the sound, that the inverted
Bonade was (in his opinion) the best ligature out there, and that the
wear on the mouthpiece should be thought of as a badge of honour for all
the hard work being done practicing and/or performing! Quite
honestly, this really eased my mind and I haven't given it a moment's
worth of worry since. Also consider that many pros consider a piece of
tape somewhat suspect as it may indeed change the sound. Perhaps you
could think of the marks it makes on your mouthpiece as a kind of patina
gained through loving use.
