A clarinetist can be whatever else she darn well pleases. We all have
hobbies outside of the clarinet - I for one also play trombone ;P Seriously,
I'm also a writer and an actor. Music is a large part of my life, but it
isn't everything, and shouldn't be.

I don't even understand that comment.

Tell them that if they're going to make crass generalizations, they should
consider the fact that our education system is set up to create well rounded
individuals. You've definately got a spherical shape forming from the sound
of it :)

Great attitude!

Wow, wish I could track done something like that.

Not a problem, glad it's something I can address on topic. :) I'll let you
in on something, my band director (a trombonist) threw a fit when I started
playing clarinet on my own time. He even yelled at me when I took it to band
camp, which was a camp at my current university that had only the slightest
thing to do with the school. He said it wasn't proper, and that I could
dabble if I wished, but I would never get any good on it. ...Well, I'm not
that good at it, but I haven't stopped practicing, and I can't deny trombone
is, and will be, my primary instrument. I just have too many years on it.
Doesn't mean I plan to ever stop playing the clarinet. I like the clarinet
better. :)
