I was using a Bonade inverted (infinitely preferable to the non-inverted,
if only because the distance between the rails never varies), then went to
Rovners for a while, then a Selmer expanding-metal (which I now keep with
my Balanced Tone). I am back to the Bonade. The Rovners seem to be
effective in cutting the edge off a bright-sounding mouthpiece; other than
that, they effectively hold the reed on, even when moving the mouthpiece
(the principal deficiency of the above-mentioned Selmer). The Bonades are
quite secure, also. The Vandorens are very shiny, frightfully expensive,
and, at least with one of the three plates (the most effective one, in my
estimation) are about equal to an inverted Bonade.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
