Ian -

I'm very much on the inside looking at our inside education problems,
particularly in the teaching of the "Queens English" (Americanized).

Aside from my irritation with the dropping of capitalization, my other
objective was to point out to our student members the great importance of
knowing how to write correctly if they are to have successful careers. This
is important, whether in music or in some form of commerce.

Although not strictly a music or clarinet subject, this is a matter that I
have wanted to address for quite some time. After being on the List for a
number years and observing some very poor writing, particularly from the
younger "set", I felt that maybe giving some advice to them might be taken
to heart by a least a few of them.

I'm not an English teacher, but at the bank from which I retired, the
president and other fellow officers would often bring letters or other
documents to me to edit and check. So, I do know the importance of correct
writing and how it can help your career.

Observe Dan Leeson's postings to see excellent writing.

Regards,

Gene N.

On balance, I thought this a perfectly valid assumption based on your
earlier post. OK so it turns out to be wrong, but I took the implication
that you were on the outside looking in, so to speak.
