<><> It seems to be of the greatest interest to those with something to
hide.

It's an indication of how central privacy is to anyone's feeling of well
being and self esteem that I cannot let this remark pass --- even though
it has moved completely off topic.

Many items are appropriate in one context but not another. Example: I
might talk about love-making techniques with my wife, but not with my
mother or secretary. Each person's choice of where a certain item is
appropriate is a defining element of his or her personality. All of us
feel that we have the right to control and define our own personality.
(where 'personality' is separate from 'action')

So privacy includes more than keeping secrets from a law enforcement
agency or the public at large. It includes the power to define
yourself.

Consider brain washing techniques. One of the most powerful weapons is
to shred the victim's sense of privacy and control of his or her own
persona. A person's privacy goes far beyond mere
guilt/innocence/"nothing to hide".

Cheers,
Bill
