I may have missed it but what level of performing group was this: a
civic (unpaid) symphony, ad hoc professional group, an established local
professional symphony, touring professional group, etc?

I should have been more clear about that.

The orchestra was a local professional chamber orchestra from which at
least one concert master (principal violin) has moved directly on to a
major national orchestra (the names NY Philharmonic or NY Symfonia stick
in my mind, but probably I don't have the name correct). The piano
soloist was an outside professional with some national and international
recognition, but not to the point where I remember his name.

Thus the performance needed to be heard and reviewed as a piece of
professional music, not as a 'student recital' or 'civic event' for
which praise and encouragement are the primary goals.
