Parent education. Kids' attitudes toward everything in their world are
reflective of the messages they receive at home. There are these ads on
television, encouraging parents to be actively involved in their kids'
lives, to both talk and listen to them, to know what they're up to. It's
not necessarily a warm fuzzy dynamic (we're talking about relationships
with teenagers, after all). The talking part, combined with the example
that parents set through their own behavior, has an enormous impact on
how kids filter and respond to what they see, hear, and experience in
life, even if it seems that everything is going "in one ear and out the
other." The earlier the communication dynamic is established, the more
accessible the tools will be available to the child. Send the right mes-
sages from home, and the kids will be appropriately equipped to address
issues they encounter in the world. They will make mistakes along the
way, but the foundation provided by good parenting will inform and guide
them for a lifetime.

That's what I think, not that this has anything to do with music, but
I'm sure we could bend it somehow into a shape that is musically rele-
vant if we tried.
