I think there's a psychological thing at work here, and I've discussed it
with students many times.

You hear someone play, and it is very impressive in some way, and
seemingly without effort. You also know that you have exerted a great
deal of effort in your own practice to get to the same place.

But it's really comparing apples and oranges, because you have no actual
experience of the amount of effort it took the other player to get to
that same level of accomplishment. While I agree that some people require
less effort than others, chances are that even the "effortless" players
are putting in practice time to whatever extent is necessary for them.
