A few years ago I loaned Michele Zukowsky a C clarinet for some Martinu.
Her orchestra liked it so much that in the end I let her buy it (so
obviously they noticed).
I think that if you don't want to make a C clarinet sound, it is a waste to
buy a C clarinet. But it may be that some manufacturers try to make the
sound more similar to the other two instruments while other manufacturers
try to enhance the contrast. Nick
