As for the dexterity, I strongly recommend that you play 1st parts on the
Bb. I've played these parts since 6th grade, all throughout my HS career.

When I entered undergrad, I was put to bass. I thought this a horror but
actually it was the biggest blessing.

What's the point? The point is to find yourself in succession as I did.
This is how the strength and agility in my fingers was built. You get
enough eefer parts and then scolded to play and blend in with the ensemble
and you will see.
