I now have my own warmup that I have devised after many years. I tinker with
it from time to time depending on things I notice on the job. A few
statistics I worked up about my warmup (which I should publish and sell. .
.ha)

Crosses the first register break somewhere over 500 times, the second break a
few hundred times (I actually figured it out once, but didn't write it down).
Has somewhere around three thousand articulated notes.

Before that I did use books. I wore out two copies of Baermann 3 in 12 years.
It's still a great basic book. I do believe that David Hite's edition offers
an advantage over the old Carl Fischer.

So a good warmup would be: major and minor sequence from Hite/Baermann
(slowly!), A Stark Arpeggio study and a page or two from Stark Practical
School of Staccato (also slowly, and very short and clipped). You can
alternate once a week the Baermann for either Hamelin or Jeanjean Vade Mecum.
Metronome mandatory.

Do that every day for six months. Tape yourself playing some Rose etudes
before and after the six months. Report on your findings.
