Okay. I was wondering whether you want a particular 'tone' (sound
character), or perhaps you want to play music that was composed
specifically for C clarinet, or --- as it turns out --- you have the
goal that you described above.

My thought is: If you want to branch out, perhaps adding C clarinet
to your repertoire is too 'small' a move. Adding a bass (or Eb) would
be a much larger move and would give you a broader perspective for
future choices.

Also, if rentals are available in your area, you may want to *rent*
first. I rented a bass several years ago, just to satisfy my
curiosity, and I decided against buying one. Thank goodness I decided
to 'test' before I invested. If clarinets are available for rental in
your area, you're more likely to find a bass or Eb than a C.

whether music is a 'language' is relevant.
