Kevin--

If you want to be a band commander/conductor, there is a lengthy audition
process. In addition, auditions are not regularly scheduled, but only when
there are vacancies in the career field.

There are also differences between the Air Foce and Navy Programs compared
to the Army and Marine Programs in that the Army and Marines still use
Warrant Officers as band commanders.

It has, thank you. Not that I like the answer, mind you. :P Oh, well, I'll
be able to conduct (supposedly) once I graduate, (since I need conducting
classes anyway). But then, as Bill alluded, and another poster joked, I may
be either too valuable or too incomepetent to be put in charge of any bands,
and certainly not while I'm still a an Ensign. :P Thanks to all who
responded. Drats, means more individual practicing... Maybe I can get
together with some shipmates, form a small ensemble...
