Only non-commissioned officers (enlisted ranks...sergeants) play in ANY of
the military bands...NO commissioned officers play in these groups. I
suppose you could debate whether the commissioned officers don't play
because they are TOO VALUABLE or TOO INCOMPETENT...but then that's a whole
other discussion.
