The members and conductors in all of the DC bands are a different matter
however. They are ALL officers of various ranks.

If I am not mistaken, in military bands there ARE NO officer players. All
players are enlisted; DIRECTORS are officers, or in some cases, warrant
officers. At one point in my Air Force career I heard they were looking
for band directors, but the personnel people made it VERY clear to me that
I would NEVER be released from duty as a flying officer to be a band
director.
