Your experience proves the point, doesn't it? Some people do more
adjustment than others, but it's a necessary skill if you're a serious
player, and it *does* yield results. There are lots of 'friendly' and
readable books on reed care. One of them is:

Selection, Adjustment, and Care of Single Reeds (Larry Guy).
