Players of the Boosey and Hawkes '1010' instrument who switched to
French instruments in the early 70s, like me, were initially amazed that
you had to use different barrels for Bb and A instruments.

It appeared that you also had to put the RH little finger Eb key on to
get an acceptable high D and E.

These characteristics of the Buffet (in my case) seemed a terrible
nuisance to start with, I recall.
