We seem to be having one of those semantic difficulties to which the
internet lends itself so well. My impression from reading the original post
from the gentleman who signs himself only as "Michael" was that he intended
to say that Stoltzman is often considered to be the "superstar" of the
clarinet, but that in an ideal world, he should not be, but that other,
unnamed clarinetists more richly deserve that epithet. In that sense, I was
trying to find out from him who these other superstars were. I didn't
intend to either criticize or praise Stoltzman, although Mr. Michael later
wrote a message which seemed to me to imply that I was defending Stoltzman
and criticizing his anonymous superstars.

That wasn't my intention. I was merely commenting on the fact that, as you
point out above, we can shop at K-Mart for clarinet CD's by Stoltzman alone.

This probably clears up the confusion very little if at all...........
