I started it by posting the following:

...but have been unable as yet to track down the edition I mention
there. Perhaps it was an Italian edition, which would explain why none
of my oboe-playing friends here seem to have seen it.

It would obviously be nice to find either the text of (or an independent
reference to) Schumann's letter to the contemporary publisher, whoever
that was.
