Michael,

In response to the barrel thing, try out a few
different kinds of barrels. I use different barrels on
my Bb and A clarinets, and always have. A few besides
Moennig to try would be Chadash and Clark Fobes (of
the list here.) I use both, and have long since left
my Moennig barrels, not because they were bad, but
because Clark Fobes' barrels and Guy Chadash's barrels
were better for my projection and "ping" in my sound.

As far as using the SAME barrel for both Bb and A, you
might get a better sound from using the Bb Moennig
barrel instead of the stock barrel on your A, *BUT*
there is a problem. The A barrels usually have a
SMALLER bore than the Bb barrels, so pitch will suffer
when you do so. Also, the length for Bb barrels are
LONGER than A barrels usually, which also would make
the overall scale flatter on the A. At least get a
barrel that is made for the A clarinet to try when you
are comparing.
