I agree....and for what kind of playing. What, if any, universal conventions
exist? Do players adopt or do "things" (what things? conventional things)
differently from country to country.......teacher to teacher, etc. What are
some of the factors that help determine what becomes "conventional" or the
norm? Like it or not...."things" do/can become considered the "norm", or
conventional........like instrument used, embouchure, rules of tech, etc.
This certainly does not mean that we have only one way to play clarinet.
"Other", unconventional ways.......other successful ways of doing things
exist!
The Stoltzman thread really got this going. He has had a very successful
career....but many clarinet players do not like the way he plays. Has this
mixed reaction by peers caused because he doesn't conform to expected
convention?
