Marc,

I have cork on my upper half and double-layered leather pads on the bottom
half. It's absolutely fabulous. I couldn't be happier. I had the overhaul
done in 1996, and it's just now needing its first tune-up, though all the
pads appear to still be in fine shape. My teacher at the time (who
referred me to that repairman) said the pads should last at least seven
years, and I think that's an underestimate.
