Barb,

Here's a few suggestions...

Mozart "Church Sonatas" (arranged for Bb Clarinet and
piano/organ) published by Boosey and Hawkes.

Finzi "Five Bagatelles" (also published by Boosey and
Hawkes) mvts 2,3, and 4 are great before and during
services, and mvts 1 and 5 are great for after the
final hymn to get people out of the church.

Tartini "Concertino" (slow mvts) This is a
transcription of 3 different violin sonatas into this
concertino arrangement with 4 movements.

Wanhall "Sonata" (slow mvts)

Poulenc "Sonata" (2nd mvt) is really different for
church, and surprisingly good for either piano or
organ.

Mozart "Clarinet Concerto" (2nd mvt) if you get the
Schirmer Bb clarinet arrangement, or have an A
clarinet to play the standard version.

Schumann "Three Romances" arranged for clarinet and
piano (originally for oboe and piano.)

If you have an organ that transposes (or an organist
who transposes...lol,) have them take a hymn down a
whole step, and play the melody of the hymn. You could
also transpose the melody up a step if you don't have
an organ that transposes, and the organist isn't
versed in transposing.

This technique (one part transposed) would also work
with a number of inspirational hymns written as solos,
or a flute or oboe book of hymns or classical pieces
(things like the Bach/Gounod Ave Maria or the Shubert
Ave Maria.)
