Here's another possible source of experimental error:

Benade (and many others) have documented that wall vibrations can affect
turbulence and the air column's vibration recipe. Yet how do we
measure wall vibration? Probably with a sensor firmly attached to the
instrument's exterior.

Is it possible that, beyond a certain wall thickness, the wall material
absorbs or reflects or otherwise converts energy that does not reach the
exterior surface (having been absorbed, reflected or converted before it
reached the surface in the form of motion)? Yet there is still an
effect on 'sound character'?

Thus the effect may not be measurable by a device that measures only the
exterior surface?
