I have stayed out of this thread. Not that I don't have opinions. but perhaps opinions that are too strong.

I believe strongly, that schools, and not JUST music schools, graduate far too many people that are not qualified and will never be qualified in the field that they, in fact, have a diploma in.

I have seen students given degrees in music, when in fact, the student was "tone deaf" and couldn't sight-sing "do-re-re-do-re-re-do" with any degree of reliability. I have seen school music directors, with well paying jobs, who follow the students when they conduct, and can't negotiate the "Star Spangled Banner" without relying on the rhythmic integrity of 11 and 12 year olds. I have seen choral directos who are great at fancy hand movements, but can't recognize when the students are singing miserably out of tune or out of their range. I could go on an on.......

The kindest thing, and fairest thing, is to kindly counsel someone out of a profession where the will have to "fake it" for the rest of their lives.
