Hi all,

As some of you may know, I've been trying out some new clarinets recently...
;-)

Anyway, something I have noticed about all the new clarinets (RC, Festival,
Selmer Signature) that I've tried is that I get a very "edgy" tone in the
upper register, especially from about G upwards. Returning to my old Boosey
& Hawkes Emperors, I realised that I can actually hear the same effect on
them, it's just much, much less pronounced and sounds more "expressive" than
"ouch"!

So... any suggestions on why this might be happening, e.g. embouchure style?
I'm using a Vandoren B40 mouthpiece and a Rovner Mk III ligature, with
strength 3 reeds.

Cheers,

-- Joe
