Dear Rien, I think that having more than one form of artistic expression
in the family is wonderful. In our family, my husband loves to remodel
houses, play his guitar, sing and make oil paintings. I love to play the
clarinet and make quilts. Sometimes I get fed up with the clarinet and
go on a "quilting binge". I usually take off to the fabric department of
Walmart in the middle of the night, when I get the urge, sometimes in my
pajamas.
Yesterday and today there was a lovely art show in the park about 2
blocks down the hill from our mountain home. There was a stage and
various types of live music all day. I didn't perform (I wasn't
invited), but I enjoyed the art show and the music equally.
Unfortunately, when we tried to walk home, I was too lazy to make it all
the way back up the hill, so Don had to go get the car.
About 15 or more years ago, I got very tearful and frustrated about
my clarinet playing, just about the time that I took up quilting. I
realized that there are some people who do better with 2 or more art
forms than just clarinet. I realize that my quilting addiction is never
going to get me a gig in a major symphony, but I could care less. I am
going to quit now before I start to sound too repititious. ANNIE
