My moher is a psycologist and after discussing the colour - pitch
concept she said that this is a recognised condition called synesthesia
. Her father has a photographic memory and she and I have perfect
pitch. I understand that perfect pitch is a form of musical
"photographic memory." It also apears to be a genetic "talent". As an
instrumental teacher I find a number of primary students (the older
students less likely to tell ) who will remember a particular scale as
a certain colour or "Rainbow". One trumpet student who had learning
difficulties made huge all round schollastic improvement after realising
that music was just "a kind of painting" .
Maths was easy when she understood music and music was her painting with
sound.
