It's in the Cambridge Companion to the Clarinet - Stanford, having heard the
Brahms quintet, challenged all his students to write a similar work.
Coleridge-Taylor's ended up being played by Mühlfield!

It must have been the Harold Wright recording that I heard on the radio
about 2 years ago. I've been trying to track the parts down ever since and
reading the reference in the Cambridge companion reminded me.
