Bob, (and Neil!)

What works for me is to relax the embouchure as much as possible
while breathing, then form it again when I close my mouth to blow.
This is especially useful in long passages with no number of measures
of rest - try to relax on every quarter rest! If it gets really bad,
masssaging the area a bit to "unstick" the muscles, also works (I've
sometime done this in recitals!) The best way really is to avoid
getting to tense there, but it's very difficult and something I'm
always working on, especially in tongued passages.
