Bill's comment is basically correct. The 9 was the last of the "large" bore
Selmers. It's nominal bore dimension is .585". Furthermore, the 9 has no
undercutting in any of the tone holes.

The 9* hasa nominal bore dimension of .577" and has undercut tone holes in
the throat tone notes. The 9*s I've seen/played generally have very even
intonation. I still play a 9*.

Both instruments have reverse tapers in their barrels and their upper left
hand joints. Hope this helps.
