It's clear that if the number on the barrel is the same as on the key joints
then it is definitely a serial number and relates the barrel to the key
joints. How about the bell? Does the bell also have a serial number?

I've been to the distribution point for Buffet in America many times and
play many barrels. I've never seen a Buffet barrel with a true serial
number. I wonder if this is a regional issue???

I believe that Buffet started stamping the model and clarinet indications on
their barrels about the time that they started manufacturing and marketing
their Moennig style barrels.
