Well, I was teasing about the sound, but I do have an insert that is
placed between the lower joint and the bell. When inserted, the
fingering of low e-flat produces a low d. The insert fits both the
B-flat and the A clarinets thus allowing me to play low d on either
instrument.
The idea for the insert was in The Clarinet magazine in an article by
Bill McColl. The dimensions for the insert was very clear and I took it
to a local repairperson who made it for me.
