I was interested in the following report of some recent research on
perfect pitch:

The suggestion is that we are all born with perfect pitch, but that the
ability is almost always superseded by relative pitch, which is much
more useful in everyday life.

It seems that to retain perfect pitch, we need to exercise it early on.
