Dear Annie

Already at basic school in Sweden there are three mandatory things that you
got to learn: Swedish, mathematics and English. For any higher studies
theoretically or for a proffession, any pupil has to pass the examination
tests for these three subjects. Everybody except very old people speaks
English quite well. Nobody will even look at you at the tube because you
speak English with someone else. Do not let language be something that
hinders you from doing what you would like to do.

When it comes to international phone calls there will be instructions in
English in every room and if that is not enough ask the hotel personal they
will certainly help you.

When it comes to the economic side that is another matter, but do not worry
about language problems. I have friends from the USA, Canada, Great-Britain
and South Africa who has lived here for many years and yet hardly know a
word of Swedish.

In summertime, when we have many tourists, there are also news in English
broadcasted by the Swedish Radio Corporation every day. Most hotels have
satellite-TV and you will almost certainly be able to follow news on the CNN
or Sky channel.
