Subj: [kl] Death of a great instrumentalist
Date: Fri, 17 May 2002 13:00:43 -0400

Very early this morning, just shortly after midnight, the great oboist
John De Lanci died. He was formerly the first oboe player with the
Philadelphia orchestra and took the position after the great Marcel
Tabuteau had retired.

DeLancie persuaded Richard Strauss to write an oboe concerto for him and
the work is dedicated to De Lancie.
