There definitely could have been a barrel mixup at the
repair shop. I try to label my instrument with a
sticker of some kind on the outside to avoid this when
it goes to the shop...orange dots from Staples or
Office Max work well.

The Buffet barrels have numbers on it to designate
type of taper in the bore, and length of the barrel,
usually (some of my Buffet barrels have NO numbers on
them.) There are different numbering setups for the
different types. Most of the numbers include the
length, which would be designated by a 640, 650, 660,
670, 680, or 690 in the number. The rest of the numebr
is for whether it is an A clarinet or Bb clarinet
barrel, and whether it is a regular reverse taper
bore, a Moennig taper, or a Chadash taper. Chadash and
Moennig should be marked on the front of the barrel in
addition to the numbering on the back.

Buffet barrels wouldn't have the serial number of a
particular instrument on it. That would be like
numbering mouthpieces and reeds with a serial number
for a particular instrument from the factory.
