I find I can get a better response from my standard Brilhart lig by
using it upside down. If you put a soft pad where the reed would
normally to protect the mouth piece, and simply put the lig on upside
down. I find low volume response is greatly increase by this, although
for some reason overall sound volume does go down a bit.

Maybe it's worth trying as it doesn't harm the mouthpiece in anyway, and
you can try it with just a standard cheap lig....
