The old Ligature search... Take a Bonade and using a small flat needle
file:

1. ...carefull file the two rails until they are actually flat. You
will be moving the file up and down the length of the rails. These
rails tend to have a serious bow in them and only the ends contact the
reed. You might be surprised the difference in playing response.

OR

2. Use a file with great patience or a rotary tool ("Dremel") file out
the 60% of the rails which are between the arms of the ligature. This
is a more stable version of actually cutting out the middle, old
Marcellus era trick.

These are both excellent ways of spending time...NOT practicing!
