Another bad gig: Ringly Bros. and Barnum and Baily Circus: The trained
tigers had just finished their act and were loaded into their rolling
cages. They were pulled right past the band within about 8 feet. One of
the males decided to make a statement about the way we played the music
so he let fly with a squirt in our direction. Several musicians were in
the line of fire. I swear, they smell as bad as an 'up close skunk'

Another one: The Olympics at Squaw Valley, California. Happened to
friends of mine. They used to play all the award fanfares live. Well,
I'm sure you have already figured out what happened. They would come
out of a room a few minutes before it was time to play and wait for a
cue from someone while the medal recipients were getting their medals.
On one occasion there was a delay. So, they waited outside, instruments
at the ready position for several minutes. Well, the mouthpieces cooled
off a little bit and when they finally got the cue one of the trumpet
players got stuck to the mouthpiece, as in frozen to it. Remedy? Go back
in the room and pour your highball over the mouthpiece. Works every
time.

Also, with the events going one after another and no break, there was no bathroom break. Play one ditty, jump to the last chord on cue, turn to the next one, play until you get the chord cue, turn, wipe sweat, feel the 100+ degree Texas July heat, play, turn page, slap on more sunscreen, play...you get the idea. That was my one and only one. Never again.
