Can't resist saying that a better three would be .5mm, 1mm and 2mm.
That gives you everything from .5mm to 3.5mm.

Because any whole number has a binary representation, the best choices
are in the ratio:

1:2:4:8:16:...:2^(n-1) for some n.

That gives you all the whole number multiples of the smallest ring up to
2^n - 1.

Of course, even 4 rings is more than enough for one clarinet. A set
consisting of .5, 1 and 2mm plus one of 4mm gives you all the multiples
of .5mm up to 7.5mm!
