Probably a little bit, but the intonation improvement in the throat tones
is worth it.

Usually a set includes graduated sizes. My three are .5 mm, 1.0 mm, and
1.5 mm thick. By mixing and matching, that gives you everything from .5 to
3 mm in .5 mm increments.

If you ALWAYS have to pull out, it is reasonable to do that. Or get one
that fits in just a little tight so it stays put, but is still removable if
you wind up one day in a group that tunes a bit sharp.
