4th of July concert two years ago. By 7pm it had cooled down a nice 100
degrees, no wind. We faced a wicked Texas sunset so with sweat in our eyes,
the conductor was a blurry shadow. By about the 3rd or 4th piece, the
conductor secumbed to the heat and was hauled away in a meat wagon. The 1st
alto (who hadn't swung a baton in years) jumped up and got us going again.
Since we were behind schedule, the fireworks started just right after the
first repeat of Star and Stripes, which was actually kind of neat except the
booms weren't on the beat.
