To describe it in words:

The basic shape is a sphere whose diameter is approximately (very
approximately!) 2-1/4".

Although it _wasn't_ built this way, you can imagine the exterior shape
as if someone had cut a 1" hole (very approximate) into the sphere and
then glued a normal tenon socket onto the sphere and finally rounded off
the edges where the sphere and socket met.

Diametrically opposed to the socket is a 1-1/2" (very approximately)
circular vent hole. Again, while it wasn't built this way, it appears
as if someone cut a hole into the sphere and then added some material
around the exterior of the hole's rim in order to give the bell a more
graceful appearance.

Perhaps the best description of the exterior shape is "a tulip blossom
that has begun to open but isn't all the way open yet." The interior,
as I have already said, is spherical. I am told that the diameter of
the vent is critical to the tuning. My tuner says that the craftsman
(Steve Fox) got it exactly right.
